'Earl Haig, as president of the Rifle Association, has induced the King to revive the King’s Medal at Bisley in July, for the best shot in the Army, which Queen Victoria instituted in 1869, but it was discontinued as the Army was distributed over the world. Earl Haig proposed that six medals should be fired for annually, for Home, Indian, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand and South African armies, and proposed that the battle firing conditions ■hould be devised by the General Staff. BURDEN OF INTEREST. LONDON, May 8. The Hon Stanley Baldwin replying to a question in the House of Commons said that the average interest on Britain s debt excluding the floating debt was about 4* per cent. Including the floating debt it was less. This interest was practically all liable to income tax and super tax and if allowance was made for this the rate did not compare unfavourably with the rate Britain was paying to the United States. BRITISH NOTE TO SOVIET VIOLATION OF TRADE AGREEMENT LONDON, May 8. (Received May 9, 7.10 p.m.) The British Note despatched to Moscow contains a severe and comprehensive protest at recent acts against British subjects, and also against Russian propaganda. The Note maintains that there has been a consistent violation of undertakings embodied in the trade agreement.
