PORT OF BLUFF. The Ruranga arrived from Lyttelton at mid-day on Sunday. The Calm sailed for Dunedin at 5 p.m. yesterday. The Berwickshire will sail for London, via ; Montevideo to-day. I WHAKATANE PUTS BACK. j WELLINGTON, April 30. i The Whakatanc, which left Wellington at | 7 a.m. yesterday for Avonmouth, put back ‘ at 1 o’clock this morning, having developed ' engine trouble. Shortly after noon yester- | day it was discovered that the port re- ' frigerating engine, upon which repairs had j been carried out while the vessel was com- j pleting loading, had developed trouble caused by the condenser. The extent of the : damage was not known early this afternoon, but it is hoped to despatch the liner in two ’ or three days for Avonmouth. WELLINGTON, April 30. : The trouble with the Whakatane which | compelled her to put back to port after , tearing for West of England ports, was with the engines in the refrigerating plant. It was stated to-day that repairs would be effected in two or three days. The Whakatane will sail on Wednesday. WEATHER FORECAST. WELLINGTON, April 30. The Government Meteorologist’s forecast is as follows—Present indications are for variable breezes but moderate to strong easterly to northerly winds prevailing shortly; weather fair to cloudy generally but dull and misty at times in northern and southernmost districts. Barometer has a falling tendency.
