BOROUGH COUNCIL

SOUTH INVERCARGILL. The monthly meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council last evening was attended by Councillors M. Pearce, E. Hewitt, O. Smith, C. H. Poole, F. D. Aitken, R. R. Foster, F. C. Jones and W. Bridges. Owing to the new Mayor not having been installed, Mr W. McChesney presided. CORRESPONDENCE. An application was received from Mr W. McChesney for a copy of the amended roll as approved by the Council.—The application was granted. ( J. Urquhart wrote drawing attention to the bad state of Moulson street and requested the Council to have the road repaired before winter.—Referred to the Middle W’ard members. Carswell and Thomson wrote asking the Council to furnish them with returns showing the amount of the gravel taken by the Council from their pit at Bluff road. They were disappointed at the return received for the year ended March 31, 1922, and had decided to close down the pit altogether.— Referred to the new Council. Mr F. W. Burwell, Town Clerk of the Invercargill Borough, advised that his Council was willing to sell all the electrical reticulation south of x the Borough boundary, which at present beonged to the Invercargill Borough Council, for the sum of £333, subject to the Southland Hospital Board giving its consent and to the South Invercargill Council taking over the Invercargill Council’s agreement with the Southland Hospital Board, so far as the transmission line was concerned. The Hospital Board had paid £275 towards the cost of the transmission line to Kew on the understanding that current would be supplied t at a rate not higher than six-pence per unit.—Referred to the next meeting. \ John Stevenson applied to have the footpath from his residence in Selwyn street to Blqff road ashphalted.—Referred to Middle Ward Loans’ Committee with power to act. Messrs Stout and Lillicrap, solicitors, wrote stating that damage was being caused to Mr O’Connor’s property at Tisbury, by the embankment of the culvert in the street in front of his property. Unless steps were taken by the Council to remedy the nuisance, Mr O’Connor would be forced to take proceedings.—Referred to South Ward members to report.
