RED RUSSIA

PATRIARCH’S CONDEMNATION DEATH PENALTY DEMANDED (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, April 29. The Daily Express’s Moscow correspondent reports that remarkable scenes were witnessed at Moscow district church conference when representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church, the New Living Church and the Revivalist Church were asked to condemn Patriarch Tikhon. For two days forty-seven of his followers frantically fought his opponents. They fell on their knees and began to chant Greek orthodox hymns when Tikhon’s name was mentioned. The prelates and their followers were forced to abandon the fight and withdraw. The remainder thereupon adopted a resolution virtually demanding the death penalty.
