These made, during the year, deposits totalling £l4l. Withdrawals amounted to £54, while the amount transferred from the school bank to the Post Office Savings Bank to the credit of twentyseven individual depositors was £B4 12/-. The habit of thrift is in the case of most of these depositors pretty firmly established. SCHOOL CONDITIONS. “No move has yet been made in the direction of replacing the antiquated building at present doing duty as an infant school. The building is wanting in nearly every requirement to suit it for its purpose, and, as the Middle School is the only one in Invercargill, in need of a modern infant school building, it is time that the authorities recognised our real need in this matter. The care and upkeep of the grounds and building occupy a good deal of the Committee’s attention and funds while the cramped playground still presents an unsolved problem. “The jubilee celebrations are in the hands of a committee, of which Mr J. L. Watson is chairman. It has been decided to hold one or two socials to bring together all those interested in the old school. The first of these is due on May 9. It is hoped that the celebrations commemorating the jubilee of our school will be worthy of the occasion.”
