EMPIRE PRESS UNION

ANNUAL MEETING. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, February 20. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Branch of the Empire Press Union was held to-day. There was a large attendance, Sir G. Fenwick presiding. The balancesheet showed a credit of £73. Sir G. Fenwick in his address touched on the proposal to hold the next general congress in Australia in 1925, the death of Lord Northcliffe and the efforts of the E.P.A. to promote an Empire wireless system. Largely by its help in England and the stand taken by Mr Hughes while Prime Minister of Australia there was every prospect of the establishment of a system linking up all parts of the Empire and independent of stations on foreign ground. It was expected the charges would be only two-thirds of cable rates.

Sir G. Fenwick was re-elected chairman, a position he has held for the past thirteen years. The retiring committee was re-elected with the addition of Dr Scholefield.
