Milher, who, with Mrs Miller, has been spending a holiday in New Zealand, is returning to China where he will continue mission work. Inspector Macnamara, who succeeds Inspector Dew as officer-in-charge of tha Southland police district, arrived in Invercargill from Wehingten by Saturday night’* express. Wellington I*refw Association message states that Inspector McNamara, who has been transferred to Invercargill, was presented with an inscribed travelling bag by members of the Police Fbrcc, and was also the recipient, of many congratulations upon his promotion. The Premier has announced that Mr S. Andrew will be the Reform candidate for the Hurunui seat (says a Wellington Press Association telegram). Mr Andrew has been prominent in public affairs in the Kaikoura district for fourteen yeara. He is a member of lhe Kaikoura County Coun oil, and also a member of the North Canter bury Hospital Board. A largely attejxled meeting of liberal delegates on Saturday selected Mr 1 . Lye, dairy farmer, Pukekura, to contest the Waikato seat (says a Press Association telegram from Te Awamutu). The meeting was unanimous in the selection. Mr Wilford having left the choice of the party candidate to the delegates, Mr Lye becomes the official Liberal. A Whaugarei Press Association telegram states (hat Mr Morrison, the official Reform candidate for the Marsden seat having retired on account of ill health, a meeting of delegates selected Mr William Jones, Whangarei County chairman, in his stead, Mr A. H. Curtis and Colonel Mackesy, two other candidates agreeing to withdraw in favour of Mr Jones. The only other can didate in the field is Mr A. J.
