ACTOR MISSES GIRDER IN JUMP FROM OMNIBUS TOP. NEW YORK, August 12. A filffi actor deputising for Miss Pearl White in the performance of a dangerous feat was killed yesterday by a fall from an elevated railway structure in New York The actress was supposed to be escaping from villains who had pursued her to the top of a motor-omnibus. At this moment, the vehicle passed under the elevated railway, which is only 6ft. above the roof of the omnibus. She was supposed to catch the steel beam as the omnibus passed under and to swing herself to safety. All but the last part, of the episode was acted by Miss White herself. For the dangerous leat of leaping from the omnibus a man dressed in a similar costume and blond wig took her part. He missed his hold of the girder and falling about 25ft. into the roadway was killed instantly.
