PRINCESS FETE
SUCCESSFUL OPENING NIGHT. The Grand Princes Fete, for which preparations have been on hand for sometime past, opened its season yesterday evening in the Victoria Hall. There was an excellent attendance when the Mayor, Mr J. F. Lillicrap, declared the Fete open and the crowd swelled to a packed house before the evening closed. In declaring the Fete open, the Mayor mentioned that eighteen months ago he had performed a similar duty in regard to a carnival organised for the same purpose, to raise funds for the building of a new school. He understood that sufficient money was in hand to enable the scheme to be gone on with, and the work would be commenced the next day. The Mayor then formally declared the Fete open. The stalls organised on behalf of the six princesses were soon doing a brisk business, the tastefully decorated headquarters of each section and a host of competitions providing an abundance of attraction for those who had come prepared to leave some of their spare cash behind. The total response. for the evening was a splendid one and augurs well for the success of the Fete.
The stallholders were as follows:—No. 1 stall—Mesdames Mahoney, Loughnan, and Bremner; No. 2 stall—Mesdames Kilkelly, Martin add Drury; No. 3 stall—Miss Gonys, Hynes, McMullan; No. 4 stall—Mesdames Pasco, Deegan and Leonard; sweets stall— Mesdames Harrington and Ratcliffe; children’s stall —Mrs G. W. Woods’ coupon staß—Mrs G. W. Paton; tea-rooms—Mes-damea Millar and Dew.
