The Lancet adds that this is a record temperature. EARLS, October 1. James, the iawmrite in th** Deutsch speed prize race,, driving a 450 horsepower machine, nearly lost his life owing to strangulation in midair. He had tied a map around his neck and white travelling at 210 miles an hour the force of the wind blew the papers and caused the string to tighten around his neck. James managed to prevent suffocation, but lost the map and so abandoned the contest. The use of aeroplanes as strike breakers is the latest phase of the Marseilles strike. The aeroplanes are being sent to relieve stranded passengers. Out, of 7.000 passengers anxious to cross to Corsica, Tunis and Morocco, 1500 have asked for aeroplane passages. The French Aeronautical Department is attempting to find the necea>ary Di-ichmes. PEKIN, October 1.
