At a meeting of the Maeterton Borough Council last week, it w?s resolved (stales the Daily Times I: “That in view of the high rate of freights now in force for the transport of coal from Greymouth and Westport to Wellington, a conference of the local bodies interested b? called to devise some scheme by wh'ch these heavy transport charges would be materially reduced; that such conference he also empowered to deal with anj other matters in connection with municipal gasworks undertakings that may be breught forward on which a community of interest would cause joint action to be of benefit to all concerned.”
