SUIT TO STOP MARRIAGE
DISPARITY OF AGES. MOTHER’S OBJECTION. VANCOUVER, June 3. Toe Chicago Course granted a temixxraty restraining order against Mathilde McCormick. to prevent her marrying Max Oser, a Swiss. Harold MoCxirmack and his wife, from whom he is divorced, who is the daughter of J. D. Rockefeller, entered the Coutt on opposite adee. The father was willing that Mathilde should marry Oser, while th*- monger demanded that the Courts should inter" fere, because of the discrepancy in the age® of the jxarties who are reepectively 17 and 42, and because Mathilde vould lose her American citizenship. The father, replying to the mother’s affidavit, declared that riches should not be a bar to matrimony if true love existed; that many ■ persons of greater disparity in agea live happily; and that Oser might become an American citizen. The case was the first of ite kind ever taken to rhe Courta in this manner, and raised «ren»endous popular interest.
Two days later is was stater! that Miss Mathilde McCormick would probably marry Oser, according to an agreement reached between the girl’s father and mother, whereby the latter withdrew her objections. One section of the agreement provides for Oser becoming an Americwi citizen, which overcomes the objections of Mr John D. Rockefeller, sen., who backed Mrs McCormick’s fight to prevent the marriage because he did not want any c*f his fortune to get into a foreigner’s hands. When the compromise was announced, it was stated that Mathilde’s father would fully inquire Lute the charges that Otter was merely a fortune-hunter before taking his daughter to Europe to marry Oner.
