THEFT FROM A HOUSE

SHIP’S OFFICER PLEADS GUILTY. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 22. At the Police Court Edward Jack Crower was charged iwth the theft of jewellery and cash totalling £56 10s from a private house during the absence of the owners. Accused said he was a ship’s officer and was paid off the Tainui at Wellington. Being hard up he called on Mrs Hewitt to get a loan but there was nobody at the house. He was tempted to steal the rings and money. When arrested he had a loaded revolver in his trunk. Accused pleaded guilty and was remanded to Wellington pendkig other charges for sentence. For having illegal possession of firearms he was fined £5O or three months’ imprisonment.
