COUP AT SOFIA
A COMMUNIST RISING FLIGHT OF THE KING (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association) LONDON May 21. According to a Belgrade telegram there have been serious disorders in Bulgaria, the Communist elements trying to overturn the monarchy and establish a republic, but the loyal police and gendarmerie are restoring order. A REPUBLIC PROCLAIMED REPUTED FLIGHT OF THE KING BELGRADE, May 20. A Bulgarian message states that the Stambulski party has united with the Communists and proclaimed a republic. Red flags are flying -in Sofia. Street fighting is in progress. It is reported that King Boris has fled to Varna. DIPLOMATIC DENIALS. COMMUNIST COUP CREDITED. PARIS, May 2L (Received May 22, 5.5 p.m.) Notwithstanding categorical diplomatic denials circumstantial reports from Vienna describe the progress of the alleged Communist revolution in Sofia, whence King Boris and members of the Government have fled. Political circles are of opinion that though the Communists achieved a coup there is no likelihood of their winning substantial success, Stambulski’s Government possessing the support and sympathy of the bulk of the population.
