A Sydney Press Association cable recorda the death of Mr H. A. Howden, four times amateur golf champion of Australia. Mr W. C. Reid, telegraphist, of the Arrowtown postal staff, has received notice of transfer to Timaru. Mrs I. L. Petrie has returned to Invercargill after three months’ absence in Melbourne. Mr W. Alexander, of the Department of Agriculture, returned by the express yesterday afternoon, having been on a visit to Taranaki. Mr Justice Sim arrived by the expreas yesterday afternoon to conduct the Supreme Court sittings. This will be Mr Justice Sim’s final appearance in Invercargill prior to his visiting England on vacation. Mr P. Fraser, M.P., who has been indis-poe-ed for the past fortnight, is still confined to his home, and, acting under medical advice, will not venture out for another fortnight. Mr J. Faulks, the well-known Otago runholder and deer-stalker, went north on Saturday on his way to South Africa in search of big game. A year or two ago. Mr Faulks went to Canada on a shooting expedition, and brought back some very fine moose heads. A New York Press Association message states that Dr Client, of the Australian Health Department, has arrived from Liverpool, on two months' stay in America to study the methods of tho late General Gorgas for fighting malaria and other tropical diseases. He then goes to New Guinea to take charge of the medical hygienic administration. Mr Sven Pettersson, a well-known and highly respected resident of Queenstown, died there on Saturday morning alter a comparatively short illness. Mr Petteiwon, who was 52 years of age, was a son of the late Carl Theodore Petterißon, of Gothenburg, Sweden. He camo to Queenstown over 25 years ago, and had carried on the business of watchmaker and jeweller there ever since. He was a very keen bowler, and besides being for many years a member of the Wakatipu Bowling Club occupied the position of president in the 1920-21 season. He was also a member of the Wakatipu Defence Rifle Club, and at one time was instructor to the local Gymnasium Club. He leaves a widow and young daughter.
