ARRANGEMENTS FOR CAMPAIGN. i meeting of the Invercargill branch of the Sir * Arthur Pearson’s Memorial Fund was held last night, the Mayor (Mr J. F. Lillicrap), presiding over an attendance of about a dozen members. The following recommendations were approved : That the town campaign, be worked on the lines of the Soldiers* Memorial Campaign and that the town be divided into suitable areas, a gentlemen’s committee to look after the business portion of the town and a ladies’ committee to work the residential area. That with regard to the country campaign the chairman of Town Boards and mayors of boroughs be asked to supervise the operations in their respective centres and that ministers of denominations be communicated with and asked to cooperate in the movement with them. That the secretary be instructeH- to communicate with the following bodies soliciting their support:—lnvercargill Borough Council, Southland County Council, Bluff Harbour Board, Invercargill Savings Bank, Invercargill Racing Club, Southland Boxing Association, Commercial Travellers’ Association, Invercargill Club, Southern Club, Bowling Association, Cricket Association, and the chairman of the various friendly societies. That a street day be held. This was passed on the understanding that it should be held as a wind up to the canvass. That the campaign begin oh May 26 and end on June 30. The arrangements for the gentlemen’s committee were left to the executive and a ladies’ committee consisting of the ladies on the general committee with power to add to their number, with Mrs J. A. Hanan as convenor, was appointed to deal with the canvass of the residential area. Mr J. L. McG. Watson was elected a member of the -executive as also was Mr W. P. Hodgkins.
