PRISONERS SENTENCED AT CHRISTCHURCH (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. A number of prisoners who had pleaded gujlty to charges against them were sentenced at the Supreme Court this morning ss follows:—* Mary Hargreaves, theft, three years’ probation. William Thomas, described as a bad character, theft, twelve months’ hard labour. Robert Stanley McCausland and William Thomson, breaking and entering, three years' probation. Eugene McCormick, theft, three years’ probation. Frank O’Donnell, 17* years, three years’ reformative treatment. Ernest Robert Powell, theft of a bicycle, one year’s detention. James Dundonaid Cullen, breaking, entering, and theft, two years’ probation. John Kennedy, four charges of horse stealing, one year’s detention. Thomas William, breaking, entering and theft, two years’ detention. ACQUITTAL OF MANSLAUGHTER CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. At the Supreme Court Thaddeus Edward Doody appeared on a charge of manslaughter. The evidence showed that Doody and Cornelius O’Neill, both under the influence of liquor, started to fight in the street at Rangiora. John O’Neill a brother, interfered’ and was pushed down by accused. He fell on the pavement* fracturing his skull and dying the following day. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. AUCKLAND SESSIONS. AUCKLAND, May 10. Thcmas Fearon, 25, whose appeal against conviction for theft from the person and receiving was dismissed by the Appeal Court, was sentenced to 18 months’ hard labour.
