DISMISSAL OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS (Per United Press Avociatton.) NAPIER, May fl. There was a large attendance of the public at last night’s meeting of the City Council, which heatedly debated a subcommittee’s proposals .concerning control of the tramway and electricity departments, it being eventually decided to dumuss eight officens, including the tramway manager and Electrical Engineer, on the ground of economy, the Town Clerk to act ae manager of these departments, with an additional £l5O salary. Councillor W. E. Hill resigned ae a result of the decision, and the Mayor (Mr Andrew) offered to re-contest ths Mayoralty if challenged. Those in favour of the drastic proposal carried the day, the Mayor and three other councillors opposing it Public indignation has been aroused, and an indignation meeting is being held. The crowd attending the Council meeting frequently interrupted and the Mayor threatened to clear the building if it did not cease. Three policemen assisted in maintaining order. There is talk of further resignations of councillors
