HARBOUR BOARD

MR BAIN RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN. The meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board yesterday was attended by Messrs A. Bain (chairman), R. A. Anderson, T. A. Buckingham, C. S. Longuet, A. H. Aitken, W. B. Dixon, E. A. Nichol, J. Fleming, J. Fraser, P. Reid and the Hon. A. F. Hawke. The annual meeting to elect the chairman first took place. The Hon. A. F. Hawke proposed that Mr Bain be re-elected. He said that Mr Bain had time on his hands which he had placed at the disposal of the Board freely, and he did not think that they could get a better man. . Mr Longuet seconded the motion and supported Mr Hawke’s statements. There were no other nominations and Mr Bain was elected unanimously. The honorarium was fixed at £lOO, the same figure as last year. All the members are, it was decided, to constitute the Standing Committee. The ordinary meeting was then gone on with. The Harbourmaster reported that during April two oversee, five inter-colonial and 25 coastal vessels aggregating 21,564 tons arrived at Bluff, and 30 vessels aggregating 22,451 tons sailed. There was an increase inward of 8665 tons and an increase outward of 932 tons over the returns for April of last year.—Adopted. The statement of revenue showed the receipts to have been £3OBO 6/10 during April, being a decrease of £94 6/3 on the figures for April, 1921. The reports of officers and of the Standing Committee were adopted. The following report on the working of the cool store was adopted:—During the month 11,987 crates of cheese have come into store, making a total of 116,710 for the season. There were 12,064 crates shipped in the Dorset, leaving 33,230 crates on hand ; 2044 were booked to go out in the Devon this week, and 13,500 in the Matakana next week. Only 713 boxes of butter have come into store during the month ; 1180 laoxes have been shipped and 236 boxes remain in store.
