A GERMAN SCHOOL
SETTLERS IN PROTEST. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 5. A deputation from Ronotea and Foxton Beach yesterday interviewed the Minister of Education and protected against the establishment of a German school in that district. fc The Minister, who is en route to Auckland, made a flying visit to the district. STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER. AN IMPORTANT ISSUE. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 5. “With reference to the German School, it is true that a deputation from those districts approached mo on the matter,” said the Hon. C. J. Parr, in an interview thia morning. “It seems that a number of children of German descent are living in these places and a school is in course of construction for them. The deputation was averse on patriotic grounds to separate national schools being established so far as education was concerned, and thought they should be discouraged. It drew attention to the amendment to the Education Act last year, and requested me to take action under it.” Mr Parr added that an important issue had been raised, and declined to make any further statement until he had thoroughly investigated the situation.
