A SENTENCE INCREASED

APPEAL COURT'S DISCRETIONARY POWERS. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 28. The Court of Appeal delivered judgment this morning in the case of the King v. Redshaw, an application by Redshaw for a reduction of a sentence of nine months’ imprteonment imposed upon him at Napier for the misappropriation of certain funds of the Foresters' Lodge. The judgment of the Court was delivered by Bit Robert Stout who stated that it was hte opinion, in view of the seriousness of the offence, that the sentence was too light The Court therefore in the exercise of ite discretion increased the sentence to fifteen months’ imprisonment with hard labour. This case is the first in which the Court of Appeal has increased the sentence when an application was made to it for a decrease.
