WITHOUT CERTIFICATES

EDUCATION BOARD’S COMMENT. At the end qf last year of the 346 adult primary school teachers in the service of the Southland Education Board, 227 held certificates, 7 held licenses to teach, while 112 were uncertificated. The Board’s annual report comments aa follows on the position :—“ The proportion of uncertificated teachers remains practically the same as for the previous year, a fact that is to be regretted. During the year the Board dispensed with the services of several uncertificated teachers who had failed to improve their literary status. Notwithstanding the fact that our training colleges are contributing in great measure to the supply of fully-trained candidates for ordinary vacancies the actual results, do, as far as this Board is concerned, are that the percentage of uncertificated teachers has not diminished.”
