ANGLO-RUSSIAN OIL CO.
NATIVE EMPLOYEES STRIKE. INCREASED WAGES DEMANDED. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) DELHI, March 29. According to Persian Gulf cables there is a serious strike among employees of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company at Abaden. About four thousand Indians, Arabs and Persians are affected. They refused fo work demanding enhanced pay as a preliminary to discussion about other grievances. The company gave eighty per cent, increase last year and consequently refused new demands and issued a notice stating that all refusing to resume work would be considered to have broken their agreement and dismissed. Two thousand refused and are now being repatriated to India. The remainder returned to work. It appears that the trouble originated among the Sikhs who coerced the others to join the movement. The political resident in the Persian Gulf with several high officials visited Abaden to make enquiries. He found the strikers ’ allegations not substantiated and the wage scale liberal.
