THE DOMINION CONFERENCE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 21. At the Public Service Conference the foL lowing among other remits were passed:— That the question of the status of draught*men in the Lands and Survey Department be again placed before the Commissioner. That officers who have been subject to compulsory transfer from the Post and Telegraph Department to other departments be given an opportunity of sitting for the departmental examination in lieu of matriculation. That the Public Service Commissioner be asked to appoint civilian clerks of court at towns such as Pukekohe, Dargaville, etc., the volume of work entirely warranting these places being filled by rising juniors in the Justice Department. That all officers who have passed the Matriculation examination since the same was substituted for the Public Service Senior Examination, and who were in the service at the time of the abolition of that examination be granted a double increment so that they may not be at a disadvantage with officers who have passed the Public Service Senior Examination since that date and have received double increment. That some more adequate allowance be made to officers of the Customs Department to compensate them for time worked on public service holidays. That the conditions of lighthouse keepers be improved. That the privilege of procuring stores at mental hospitals at wholesale prices be extended to all married members of the staff. That overtime be paid to prison and mental hospital officers at the rate of time and a half for any duty performed in excess of the specified hours of duty. That all nurses who have been placed in charge of male wards be removed and attendants placed in charge. That attendants be supplied with new uniforms every twelve months. That the Government be asked to expedite the building of attendants’ cottages at mental hospitals.
