CANTEEN FUNDS

RESERVATION FOR RELIEF OF DISTRESS. TRUST BOARD’S RECOMMENDATION. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 18. At a meeting of the N.Z.E.F. Canteen and Regimental Trust Board held to-day the following resolution was passed:— “This Board is of opinion that beyond assisting units in the writing of regimental histories in accordance with the conditions under which the regimental funds were handed over to the general fund, N.Z.E.F., canteen funds should not be dissipated at the present time, but should be preserved for future requirements in the relief of distress on the part of soldiers mid widows, orphans and dependents of our fallen comrades; that in the interests of the economie administration, this fund together with all other funds which exist in New Zealand for similar purposes should be consolidated, and the Government are urged to take steps to bring abuot this consolidation by the necessary legislation and setting up of a committee representative of contributing bodies to administer this consolidated fund for the above stated objects. It is not intended that the fund should be controlled by the Government.”
