HOSPITAL SATURDAY
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A largely attended meeting of the Hospital Saturday Committee was held in the Council Chambers last evening. Mr C. S. Longuet presided and complimented the committee on the organisation which had enabled it to have the arrangements so well in hand. During recent years the committee was handicapped in its efforts by the frequent calls made upon the public for patriotic purposes, but this year there was every prospect of a record being established. It was satisfactory to know that all the societies which had been represented in previous years had proffered their assistance for this year’s collection and he hoped that the members would undertake to secure helpers. He thought also that a special effort should be made in connection with the Show day collections as last year the result had hardly been satisfactory'. The collection then' amounted to £29 as against £B9 for the previous year. He quite appreciated the difficulty under which the collectors at the Show had to work, and he thought that if they could not surpass last year’s collection, it was placing a burden upon them without sufficient return. If all the societies undertook to assist, however, he believed that they could reach the £IOO mark.' The secretary reported that the organisation of the country districts was well under way and that plenty of workers had been assured. Representatives of the various organisations undertook to assist with the Show day collections and were allotted stations for the Hospital Saturday' collections.
