WELLINGTON, June 24. | Last night Captain Yeo, Naval Intcili gence Officer, Wellington, received a call for help by repeated wireless messages from ; the new five-masted schooner, Vigilant, 1439 tons, bound from Gray’s Harbour, i Washington, to Sydney. The schooner re- ! ported that she was in heavy weather, and I as her deck cargo was shifting she might ! need assistance. The Vigilant gave her j position at 8.30 on Wednesday night as j 150 miles north-west of Lord Howe Island, j which lies to the north-east of Sydney, in i longitude about two-thirds of the distance i along the toast from Cape Maria to Sydney. Captain Yeo promptly cabled the mes- , sage from the Vigilant to the Sydney Naval | authorities. Probably the message had al- j ready been picked up by the New South i Wales wireless stations. The Vigilant was first spoken to on Wednesday night by j a vessel which was about 200 miles north j of her, but the vessels were moving away from each other. The Vigilant left Gray s Harbour on April 11 with a cargo of timber for Sydney. She is American owned.
