EPIDEMIC GRAVES
E XIIU 31A TIO \OF BODIES. ALL APPLICATIONS REFUSED. (Per United Press Association ) M ELLINGTON. June 24. A large number of applications have recently been received by the Minister of Internal Affairs from relatives of victims of the influenza epidemic of 1918 for permission to remove the bodies from the graves in which they were hastily buried to family i plots. The Minister has given this matter ! very serious consideration with the Health j Department, and has declined to take the j responsibility of allowing any interference j with the bodies at present. In the course ! of a few years any danger of infection will | probably have disappeared, and application;; i for removal can then be renewed. j Mr Anderson Ls of opinion that the time ’ which has elapsed since the epidemic is so : shoit that there might possibly be danger I to the community if approval were given at | present to the applications, and lie has therefore, resolved to refuse in the mean- 1 time all applications for the exhumation of j bodies of influenza victims for reinterment j elsewhere. j
