SUGAR SHORTAGE
THE POSITION ACUTE. i TE ANAU OVERDUE. j The sugar shortage, which has been hang- | ing over the heads of Invercargill's house- ; ■waves threateningly, has been growing even more acute during the last few days, until now most grocers have to admit that they cannot meet the demand. There are few of these with stocks wdio will be holding them much longer. Last month the Te Anau arrived at Bluff on the 20th with a load of sugar sufficient to carry the district on for a month on the rationing system. This month the Te Anau has not yet made her arrival, and she is not expected till the end of the week. It is stated that there is a shortage of wharf labour at Bluff, and, if this is so, supplies of sugar will not be available for probably another week or ten days.
