(Received June 22, 10.45 p.m.) The Treasurer has received a letter from a former resident of New South Wales now living in New Zealand, offering to invest £IO,OOO in the drought loan. THE I.W.W. PRISONERS. SECOND ROYAL COMMISSION OPENED SYDNEY, June 21, Mr Justice Ewing, as a Royal Commissioner, opened an enquiry into the circumstances of the imprisonment of the twelve I.W.W. members who were sentenced to long terms in 1916 on charges of conspiracy in connection with a series of fires that occurred in the city of Sydney. Much public interest is aroused, and a great crowd was around the court. This is the second time that the trial has been reopened. Hie Commission adjourned until Monday next. FARES TO ENGLAND. FURTHER INCREASE ANNOUNCED. SYDNEY, June 19. There is to be a further increase in the fare s between Sydney and London for Royal Mail steamers. First-class passenger fares, which are now £l3O, are to he £170: and second-class, which are now £lO5, will be raised to £l2O. GREAT COBAR MINES CLOSED. SYDNEY, June if). A communication has been received by 'be representative of the Receiver of the Great Collar mines from the London Receiver which comnels him to discharge all iiands, except those required to maintain the underwater mines, and to realise the assets. This permanent closing of the mine will he a fatal blow to the copper industry of the State.
