According to a cablegram from Tokio, direct wireless communication with the United States and Japan will begin on May 1, when the new high power Japanese station at Saronomachie will be opened. AN ABANDONED BOAT DISASTER FEARED, (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Hay 1. A large fishing boat, the Bessie, was found anchored off Brown’s Island and the indications are that she has been deserted for some days. The dinghy was swamped astern. The occupants could not have gone ashore by that means and this leads to the belief that a fatality has occurred. The boat was recently purchased by John Bellock, a returned soldier, who was carrying the post to Coromandel, Nothing is known about him.
