The British Embassy has advised the Slate Department that ii is authorised oflitiaily to deny rq<ort-s that the British Government arc rebating to British shipowners the tolls paid lor passage through the Panama CanaL This information is conveyed to the State Department because it is reported that some American - shippers accused the British Government of rebating the tolls, thus giving them a distinct advantage over American shippers.
