CEMENT SHORTAGE

DUE TO LACK OF COAL. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, December 18. , la common with other parts of the Dominion, Dunedin is suffering from a shortage of cement. The manager of the Milburn Lime and Cement Co., in discussing the shortage, said that it was due to the local manufacturers’ inability to obtain sufficient supplies of bituminous coal fog burning cement clinkers. The New Zealand cement mills now operating have plants that are capable of producing from 16,000 to 20,000 tons per month, and the demand throughout the Dominion is about 8500 tons a month. Owing chiefly to the coal shortage the cement mills have onlybeen able to supply 7000 tons per month since June last, and the accumulation of the shortage has now made the position serious.
