Mr McINTYRES CANDIDATURE.

To the Editor. Sir, —In reference to your answer to Mr Norman Mclntyre’s letter, which appeared in the columns of your paper of December 1, I wish to say that your statement that Mr Mclntyre’s letter “does not call for serious reply,” appears to me to be a little expert side-stepping. After reading your article, headed “Mataura Campaign,” appearing in the issue of November 25, I am of opinion that Mr Mclntyre has just cause to be indignant at your attack and condemnation of him. All politicians have a hard row to hoe at. the beginning, and if Mr Mclntyre has not yet acquired the polished manner of delivering what you choose to term his “distorted opinions,” at least. I am firmly convinced that he is conscientious in his intentions for the welfare of his country. And again if he is "not to' be taken seriously,” why put yourself tc the trouble of printing a whole column. •;.£ apparently disparaging remarks concerning him ‘i You are surely rather keen to impress the people of Mataura that hs will not suit their interests! The people of Mataura, I hope, on election day, will judge their man by his true standards, and not by his ability to put into polished words his policy. Mr Mclntyre is a hardworking farmer, and at least his practical views are quite as acceptable as the theoretical “castles in the air” which some of our politicians use as a basis for their platform. In conclusion, I call your attention to the fact that, according to British law, every man is deemed innocent until he be proven guilty. Which docs not bear a simile to your views. I object very strongly against the poisoning of the public mind against Mr Mclntyre before ho has a chance to show his hand. With a brief request. that you insert the above. —I am, etc., CHARLES WILLIAMS. Mabel Bush, December 3.
