SPORTING.

NOTES BY SIR MOORED. Entries, for the Gore Trotting Chib’s annual Boxing Day fixture close to-morrow (Friday) evening at 5 o'clock. Acceptances for the Auckland Cup and Railway Handicap are duo to-morrow (hriday). Owners are reminded that nominations for the Dunedin .Jockey Club's Summer meeting on Boxing Day and the following day are due to-morrow night at 5 o dock. The Forbury Park winner \oung Star Pointer has been penalised 10 secs in the Drayton Trot and 12 secs in the I aimers’ Trot at the Mcthvon Racing Club’s annual meeting to-day. Foaled away back in 1899 it is surprising to learn that the Southland-bred Fichu should turn up in the role of a winner as late as October ISth at the Hobart Trotting Club’s meeting at Hurt hall Park. The old fellow won the Trial Stakes and he and his rider, W. Roffnd, were treated to an ovation on to scale. Fichu was bred at Mataura by Mr P. Amos and was by Honest Wilkes from 8.8., by Blackwood Abdallah (imp.)— Black Bess, by Berlin. He was educated to the light harness game by I. Tilsou and won a number of races in Maoriland, including the Gore T.C. Cup prior to being shipped to Tasmania, where he has won a large amount, of money as a stake-lifter and place-getter. Wheit the acceptances for the Auckland Cup are made public there will be anxious ryes scanning the list to see if Karo has been left in the most valuable handicap in Maonland. It must not be forgotten that Karo has a stable companion called Fnlstaff, who may not yet be equal to winning a race of (his description, but there is no gainsaying his ability to gallop. If the Cup is not. his mission, it is safe to expect the Comedy King horse to play a prominent part in some other valuable event at I.llerslie about the time of the Christmas and New A'ear holidays. The Canterbury owner. Mr C. Reid, has purchased the three-year-old gelding Speechmaker from Mr T. H. Lowry and the son of Demosthenes —All's Well will in future be trained by F. D. Jones at Riccarton, It is understood that Jones intends bringing down a lengthy team to compete at the Southland ILC.’s Summer meeting and it is on the cards that Spccchmaker will be included. However, Monday next will tell a tale, as entries for the local gathering close at 5 o’clock on the date referred to. The jumpers. Crib and Rongaherc, who have both been, ojjerated ui>on by a skilled veterinary surgeon since last appearing in public, are to lie taken up again at Wingattii this month with a view to crosscountry racing later in the season. It is expected that Surveyor will be sent from Hastings to Auckland to carry out his engagement in the Great Northern Derby. Delight will probably accompany the Nassau three-year-old, her mission being to compete in some of the juvenile events at Ellcrslie. The Demosthenes youngster will find Moorfowl a hard nut to crack, while she will also have to do something good if she is to head off Sir George Clifford’s other accredited representative. Winter Mind. Affectation is being heavily supported for the Auckland Cup, but he will be faced with a stern task, as the field is likely to bo a high-class one. It appeared to the writer that the Kilbroncy—Sim[>cr colt had been somewhat overdone when he raced at the New Zealand Cup meeting, as he was galloping somewhat stiffly in front, but he has had time to freshen up since then. He is well handicapped in the big northern twomile race at 6.18. MANAWATU RACING CLUB. AN IMPORTANT BOXING DAY MEETING. YESTERDAY'S MATCHES/ The wicket for yesterday’s game in Invercargill was in fairly good order, ami the Union Club struck similar conditions at Wyndhnm. The match between I.C.C. and Waikiwi was rather a “massacre” on the part of the latter. This match was won by Waikiwi with a score of 280 runs. Invercargill was all out for 74. Union defeated Wyndham by a narrow margin. Scores;—UNION v. WYNDHAM. WYNDHAM. H. Mcßeath, b Hamilton 3 G. Mcßeath, c Tapley, b Fogo 19 Henderson, run out f T. Bogue, b Hamilton 5 A.
