SHIPPING EXTENSIONS
NEW VESSELS FOR P. AND O. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, November 29. Received December 3, 7.40 p.m. The P. and 0. report states that the company has contracted with Harland and Wolf to supply five steamers suitable for the Australian emigrant and cargo service via the Cape. The vessels will be 13,800 tonners and will be called Ballarat, Bulranald, Baradine, Barrabol and Bendigo. The P. and O. has also contracted with Armstrongs Ltd. for a mail steamer of 15,800 tons. The passenger steamers will burn oil to facilitate loading. P. AND 0. PROFITS. LONDON, November 29. Received December 3, 10.45 p.m. The P. and 0., after placing £450,000 to a contingent fund for overhauling steamers badly knocked about during the war and £200,000 to reserve, has a credit balance of £651,257 and carried forward £115,230.
