WHITE SLAVES OF THEATRE

TOURING COMPANY EVILS. “Travelling harems rather than legitimate theatrical touring companies,” is the scathing indictment which the Actor, official organ of the English Actors’ Association, has applied to a certain type of touring revue company which has come into existence during the war and has not died out with it. The Actor makes a grave charge of virtual white slave trafficking “carried on ia the provinces by individuals who call themselves theatrical managers,” the practice being designed for the gratification of “their own vicious ends or those of the parasites who cling to them.” The Actors’ Association proposes to meet and discuss the matter, which, in the words of the Actor, is by no means pleasant to comment upon.
