THE MINING INDUSTRY
PROPOSALS FOR REVIVAL. (Per United Press Association) HOKITIKA, May 1. Following the announcement of the Minister of Mines to put forward fresh policy proposals to revive the mining industry the Westland County Council has convened a Westland ‘ County Conference on May 14 and 15 to consider suggestions as to the best means to foster and develop the gold mining industry in Westland. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald has accepted an invitation to attend the conference and will be accompanied on his visit to the coast by Mr T. Y. Seddon, M.P. Considerable local interest is taken in the coming conference and delegates will be present from all parts of the district to discuss various proposals with the Minister. In addition to attending the conference the Minister will be asked to visit the new goldfield near Lake Kanieri and Cedar Creek reefs. The Ministerial visit is looked forward to with great interest as auguring for important mining developments in the immediate future.
