EGYPTIAN UNREST
QUIETNESS SUPERFICIAL. DRASTIC ACTION UNAVOIDABLE. (By Telegraph— Press Asm.— Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, April 30. Received May 2, 1.15 a.m. The Times correspondent at Cairo learns from reliable sources that the appearance of restored quietude is only superficial. The provincial natives at present seem to submit, but outbreaks recur immediately if the troops are withdrawn. Cairo serves as the nerve centre of the agitation of a clique of lawyers, and students, who inspire and direct the ferment over the whole country. Motor cycling agents are sent out and a succession of troubles marks their trail everywhere. Only fifteen per cent, of the native officials have resumed work in Cairo. The secret intimidation of the remainder Eersists, despite warnings. The Government as still delayed its threatened drastic action, which is obviously unavoidable. For Chronic Chest Complaints, Woods’ Great Peppermint Cure.—(Advt.)
