SOUTHLAND’S THIRD ANNUAL TEST. FINAL RESULTS. The following list gives the totals and weights of the pens averaging the standard weight of 240z to the dozen eggs. As will be seen, only 28 pens out of a total of 41 succeeded in obtaining the required weight. It was unfortunate that C. Dixon’s pen failed to lay eggs of the standard weight, as the fine score of 1440 eggs for 48 weeks was 12 eggs better than the best score (Dowdall 1428) for the same period of the first competition.

Winter test (17 weeks). —R. C. Ferguson’s pen of Black Orpingtons first with 442 eggs, Mrs J. Anderson and Mrs F. Gorinski tie for second with 405 eggs each. Autumn Test (11 weeks). —C. Double’s pen of White Leghorns first with 326 eggs, J. Webb’s pen of White Leghorn’s second with 321 eggs, A. Pro van’s pen of White Leghorn’s third with 311 eggs. Special Prizes for Heavy Breeds, —R. C. Ferguson (Black Orpingtons) 1242 eggs, first, R. L. Procter (White Rocks) 972 eggs, second. Best Average Weight of Eggs per dozen (gold medal presented by Mr C. Warburton). —T. E. Davis's pen of White Leghorns, first. Best Pen bred from owner’s own mating (gold medal donated by Mr J. Gilkison).— Mr C. Thomson, first. Standard certificates are won by the first 16 pens having laid 1200 eggs or over. The following quantities of feed were used during the currency of the competition:—■ 11,2001b wheat, costing £6B 13s; 56501b oats, £33 4s lOd; 60001b pollard, £3O 9s 9d; 19701b bran, £7 8s; 21901b shell and grit, £l2 5s Id; 7851b meat meal, £7 3s; livers and heads, £4 19s 3d; 2621b charcoal, £2 ss; 2001b Meggett’s meal, £1 13s 3d; green feed, £1 18s; 41 bales straw, £5 14s; sundries, £1 18s 9d.
