ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS

The half-yearly meeting of Court Star of the Forest was held in the Public Hall, Woodlands. C.R. Bro. R. M. Hewitt presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. One candidate was initiated by the C.R., assisted by P.C.R. Bro. C. Hughes. Reference was made to the loss sustained by the Court owing to the removal from the district of Bros. John Reardon and S. S. Laidlaw, two members who have always taken a very active interest in the Order; another energetic worker, Bro. J. E. Hoffman, was farewelled, he being on tho eve of his departure for active service. The relatives of the late District Secretary (Bro. James Macfie) forwarded a photograph of the late brother, and it was decided to have same suitably inscribed and framed and hung in the Court room. The “Visitors” toast was responded to by Bros. R. J. Barnett and W. Wilkie, Court Southern.

COURT QUEEN OF THE SOUTH, A.O.F.

An enjoyable social was held by this Court on Wednesday evening, and was attended by the members and a fair number of visitors. Games and dancing wdre the order of the evening, together with musical and other items. Sister Liddell, on behalf of the Court, presented the'prizes to the winners of the recent competition for initiation of new members. These were won by Sister Jones (31 members), Sister Baird (21), Sister A. Jones (15), and Sister I. Baird (14). The secretary, Bro. A. W. Jones, spoke in glowing terms of the Court, which now numbers' some 160 members, laying stress on the various aspects of Court work, and emphasising the advantages of membership. Supper, provided by the members of the Court, was then handed round, and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to an end shortly after midnight. Great credit is due to Bro. Jones for the capable manner in which he acted as M.C. throughout. ’
