ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
A QUARRY FATALITY. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 11. An inquest was held on the body of James Cotton, aged 42, who died on Tuesday as the result of injuries sustained by a fall of rock at ShieL’s quarry last week. The evidence showed - that Harrison, foreman of the quany, made an inspection before work started on the day of the acci-' dent, finding everything right. Half a dray load of material fell about 30ft, striking Cotton. The Coroner said the evidence showed that even if all possible care was taken the working of a face quarry was attended by danger. There was evidence that the accident arose through the non-observance of the regulations under the Stone Quarries Act, but it was not advisable for him to say more about that then. A verdict was returned that death was due to injuries sustained by being struck on the bead by stone falling from the quarry face.
