RAILWAY OFFICERS INSTITUTE
] The local branch of the New Zealand 1 Railway Officers’ Institute held a moat successful social evening in the Railway Social Hall on Friday. Notwithstanding the in- : clement weather there was a large attendance. An excellent programme of progressive euchre, musical items, and dancing, . was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The competition for the euchre prizes was exceptionally keen, the ladies’ being won by Miss Ferguson, and the men’s by Mr H. Woods, chairman A.S .R.S. Miss Mahoney and Mr T. A. Clark, being the least successful players, also received a prize. Musical items were contributed by Misses Ollerenshaw and Orange, and Messrs Arthur, Spen- , cer, Newman and West, the accompaniments 1 being played by Mrs Coldicatt. At the conI elusion of the musical programme a dainty supper was handed round, after which danci ing was indulged in until the small hours of the morning. It is the intention of the ! committee to hold these functions at frequent intervals during the winter months. I
