THE GORE FIRE
Following are the insurances in connection with the Gore fire. The block was owned by Mr James Holland, who had it insured for approximately £BOOO in the National Insurance Company. The various insurances of the other sufferers were as follows: G. C. Hamilton, Guardian, £1600; estimated loss over this amount £IOOO, exclusive of £3OO cash recovered in safe. John Calder, Norwich Union £SOO, Standard £500; estimated loss over insurances, £2850. E. J. Watt, Commercial Union £IBOO, Norwich Union £400; total value of stock, £4OOO. J. D. Forbes, Norwich Union £2OO, Victoria £425; estimated, loss over this amount, £IOO. McGruer, Taylor and Co., New Zealand £IOOO, Yorkshire £2500; total value of stock, £6OOO. J. T. Holland, Norwich Union £450, stock not burnt nor removed but damaged by water. Estimated damage £100; stock estimated value of £7OO. There were no insurances on the effects and furniture of Misses Barclay, who estimate their loss about £3O; Mrs Harliwich, whose loss was approximately £SO; Mrs Henderson, whose furniture was valued at £4OO, and who in addition lost £4O in cash; and the Returned Soldiers’ Club, which was recently furnished at a cost of £2OO.
