WALLACE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION

The following is the report of directors to be presented at the annual meeting; — Agreeable to the decision of the last annual meeting, the Association held no Show in the Summer of 1917, and the directors therefore can only report a quiescent year. The following resolution was minuted at last meeting: “ That all members at present financial be considered to remain financial till the Association recommences operations, and also that all office-bearers should retain their positions as well.” At a meeting of the directors held in July, while keeping the foregoing resolution in remembrance, it was decided to appeal to members to pay half membership fee for the year, so as to wipe oil the Association’s bank overdraft, which at that time stood at £Bl 4/7. The response indicates the interest of members in the welfare of the Association, as the indebtedness was cleared o5 at the close of the financial year, with the exception of £2 16/11, which has since been paid. I'rom the terms of last year’s resolution it will be seen that all' members then financial stand good on the Association’s books for this annual meeting whether they have paid the half fee or not. All members who have joined the New Zealand Expeditionary Force are also maintained as financial till the close of the war. To keep faith with that resolution, the directors conclude also that the current year’s office-bearers retain their seats for another year. As the date for the Summer Show approached, and throughout the Summer months when practically every Association in the province carried out its usual Show, your directors were led to doubt the wisdom of closing down operations, and .at a meeting of directors at which there was a good attendance, held on 12th March last, it was resolved that for 1918 the Show be held on the usual date, Wednesday, 20th November. To stimulate interest, in the affairs of the Association and to come into line with the directorate of the more recently formed societies, it has been resolved to increase the number of directors from 21 to 40, exclusive of president and vice-president. An amendment of by-law No. 4 to give effect to this has been duly passed at two meetings of directors, and is submitted to the annual meeting of members for con firmation, prior to the election. In accordance with this amendment, you will be cidled upon to elect an additional 18 directors at the annual meeting. It is believed that every district will then he adequately represented, and general interest stimulated. Acting in co-operation with the Southland War Funds’ Association, your directors decided to promote a Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition, and to combine with same a district appeal to raise a large sum for patriotic purposes. The control and management of the Show have been entrusted to the Otautau Branch of (he War Funds’ Association, and your directors are interesting themselves on the district committees, and acknowledge gratefully the assistance of members on these committees. The directors appeal to all members of the Association to give their hearty support to this effort, and with confidence commend their attendance at the Show, which is to be held in Otautau on 19th and 20th June. The directors express their appreciation of the help of the secretary who has given his services free for the year and is also acting gratuitously as secretary for the Winter Show.
