NAVAL MATTERS

THE LOST CONVOY ADMIRALTY’S REPORT EVERYTHING POSSIBLE DONE (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) [Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, January 14. Received January 15, 11.35 p.m. Sir Eric Geddes, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that the Admiralty confirmed the finding of the Court of Inquiry that the escorting vessels did their best to protect the Scandinavian convoy which was destroyed by the enemy in the North Sea. The escort fought in a proper and seam an like manner, and the covering forces took all possible steps to come to their assistance and prevent the escape of the enemy. The Board was of opinion that the circumstances which prevented the covering forces from arriving in time were unpreventable. Admiral Sir David Beatty’s disposition was the best possible with the available forces.
