GASWORKS FIRE
ALLEGED ARSON AND THEFT. [Per United Press Association.] GISBORNE, November* 1. As a further sequel to the recent gasworks fire, John Sheriff Dods, clerk at the gasworks, was arrested by Detective McLeod to-day and brought before the Magistrate, charged with arson and the theft of various sums belonging to the company. Mr McLeod, in applying for a remand, said that Dods had confessed to the misappropriation altogether of very large sums of money. A remand till Friday week was granted, bail being allowed, self in £SOO, and two sureties of £SOO each. Frank Parnell, on remand for arson at the gasworks, appears at the Court tomorrow, when a further remand will be asked for.
