PARLIAMENT
MONDAY, 16th OCTOBER. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 15. The House met at 7.30. THE Cl CAMP. Replying to Mr McCallum, Sir James Allen said that in conversation on Saturday with the officer in charge of the Cl camp, the officer had informed him that not less than 50 per cent, of the men in the camp would become fit for active service. CROWN LAND ACT AMENDMENTS. A bill to amend the Crown Lands Act was introduced by Governor’s message. The Premier said it was not controversial in nature, being for the most part departmental amendments. The most important amendment was to repeal, in the interest of the Crown, an old standing provision by which portion of the Crown land revenue in the Taranaki district went to the New Plymouth Harbour Board. Lately the Government had been keen on buying veryvaluable areas of native land, and it was never intended that portion of the revenue derived from this source should go to a harbour board, and the board did not expect it. The bill proposed to make the position clear.
