TERRITORIAL PARADES
BRIG.-GEN. ROBIN INTERVIEWED. An informal conference took place on Saturday between Brigadier-General Sir A. W. Robin and staff officers and representatives of the Farmers’ Union, A. and P. Association and dhamber of Commerce relative to various complaints made with regard»to Territorial parades, etc. In the course of discussion it was made clear that the whole facts in several instances had not been stated by the complainants, while others were more or less substantiated. The ultimate outcome of the conference was, however, most satisfactory, and General Robin outlined certain proposals which were in course of review, and which he thought when brought into operation would be found to give the necessary relief and cause the least possible annoyance and dislocation of work to fanning and other essential operations. He asked that in future any complaints should be made to the O.G. Otago and Southland Military district, or to himself, through the secretaries of the various bodies affected, and gave an assurance that in every case due and careful enquiries would be at once instituted. The representatives were met in the fairest manner possible, and it is considered only fair and reasonable that any complaints substantiated by proper evidence a a to facts should be sent in to the secretary of the Farmers’ Union, A. and P. Association, or . Chamber of Commerce. In all cases applications for exemption.have to be made through the local Defence office, and not through a magistrate. . Mr W. A. Cox, on behalf of the bodies represented, expressed their thanks to General Robin and his officers for their courtesy.
