SKATING CARNIVAL
IN AID OF R.S.A. The big skating carnival, which is being promoted to raise funds for the Returned Soldiers’ Association, opened last evening in the King’s Hall which was crowded with skaters and spectators, all of whom seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. No doubt the worthiness of the object, appealed to many' to assist, and that is as it should be, for this Association above all must not be allowed to retrograde in any way through lack of public support. Apart from this consideration those who were present merely as onlookers certainly got full value for their money by the amusement, which all through the evening never flagged. The skaters all seemed to enjoy themselves to the full, and a feature of the evening was the high class music supplied hy the Dominion Band. The costumes were many and varied, some being of very original design, other distinctly' humorous, while the more commonly seen ones such as pierrots, cricketers, etc., all helped to make the assemblage attractive. Prizes are to be awarded on the final night of the carnival, and the various winners will be decided by vote of the audience, voting papers being distributed upon admission each evening, iNo doubt to-night and to-morrow evening will again see packed houses, as tip-top entertainment is provided throughout the evening and dull moments are impossible. The R.S.A. are certainly to be congratulated upon the success of the first night of the festival.
